Biotech and AI infrastructure do not share a value chain. They share a discipline. Both require operators to translate ambitious possibility into a sequence of states that can be financed, verified and repeated.
Trust comes from state clarity
Reserved is not energized. Predicted is not validated. Signed is not accepted. Registered is not resulted. Precise language lets customers, researchers and capital providers make better decisions without requiring false certainty.
The same discipline improves internal work. Teams know what changed, which artifact proves it and who owns the next transition.
Build institutions that learn
The durable advantage is not access to one scarce input. It is the ability to convert inputs into accepted outputs repeatedly and to update the system when reality disagrees. Incidents, null results and failed assumptions become operating knowledge rather than private embarrassment.
That is the reality layer: the machinery between a persuasive future and a dependable present.
Use state machines as a common language
The useful analogy between compute and biotech is not that their technical work is interchangeable. It is that both benefit from explicit states. Announced, ordered, delivered, installed, commissioned, accepted and operating describe an infrastructure path. Proposed, reviewed, funded, executed, replicated, reported and translated describe a research path. Each transition has different evidence, and the nouns on either side remain misleading without the verb between them.
State language improves cross-functional decisions. Finance can release capital against a completed transition. Commercial teams can promise only the states the delivery system controls. Researchers can distinguish a compelling hypothesis from a validated result. Leaders can compare programs without inventing one universal score. The state machine turns uncertainty into a map: not certainty about the destination, but clarity about where the system is and what proof moves it next.
The institution is the compounding asset
Hardware generations change, scientific hypotheses fail and individual counterparties leave. The durable asset is the institution's ability to absorb those changes without losing memory or trust. It preserves evidence, makes decisions traceable, rehearses recovery, prices risk honestly and updates protocols after reality disagrees. This capability compounds because every delivery and failure improves the next state transition.
That institution can be encoded in software, contracts, review rituals, technical standards and culture, but it cannot be reduced to any one of them. The reality layer is their connection. It is the place where possibility encounters power, rights, money, materials, measurement and time. Operators create value by making that encounter legible enough for specialists to coordinate and disciplined enough for an accepted output to emerge repeatedly.

I would revise the unifying thesis if either field escaped the need for physical delivery, accountable coordination and evidence that survives independent scrutiny.
